Reflection - Maths
This week during maths, I have been learning to share things equally between people. For example:
9 Pizza's
10 People
I know that there are more people then pizza's. Not everyone will have a whole but PARTS.
Each person will have 1/10 so
1/10 nine times will be 9/10
Each person will have 9/10 pieces.

Maths Reflection
During maths, I learnt to solve "How many sets of?" and "sharing" division problems using multiplication (reversibility).
For example:
Jo had 9 muesli chunks. She shared among 3 children.
How many chunks will each child get?
9 divided by 3 = 3
There are 3 muesli chunks that 3 children got.

Maths Reflection
During Maths I learnt to solve problems like 28 + ? = 82 using a tidy number line then jumping back by a smaller number.
For example:
28 + ? = 82
28 + 2 = 30
30 + 50 = 80
80 + 3 = 83
83 - 1 = 82

Maths Reflection
This week during Maths, I learnt to solve problems using a number line or tidy numbers.
68 + ? = 104
68 + 2 = 70
70 + 30 = 100
100 + 4 = 104
30 + 2 + 4 = 36
For example:
68 + ? = 104
68 + 2 = 70
70 + 30 = 100
100 + 4 = 104
30 + 2 + 4 = 36
Answer = 36

My Highlight At The Portable Swimming Pool
My highlight at the portable swimming pool was when I pushed and glided through the water without kicking my feet. I couldn’t do it properly, but I still wanted to learn. It was fun, but I didn't feel proud because I didn’t reach the end. My body felt the warmth of the water after a few games, I didn’t notice the water was cold. Then it was time to get out, the water trickling down my face. No! It’s changing time.

Netball
Last Tuesday, the Year 8 girls played against Balmoral. I felt nervous that my team might lose this game. We had goosebumps especially me. We began with warming - up then had our prayer.
Firstly Mele and Pam(coach and manager) discussed the Year 8 position. I was WD(Wing Defense). I felt cold outside but excited inside. We began. My opponent was nervous and shivering too.We waited for the bell.
Secondly the whistle blew, and the game began. I could hear the supporters were cheering, shouting and laughing. First Quarter, Second Quarter went passed. Then LIGHTNING. “Aargggh!” I shouted. We were then sent to the veranda. Shivering and shaking, I felt goosebumps.
They were pretty hard to me.

Homework or No Homework
Homework is an important part of learning.
Doing homework is practising what’s being learnt in class during the day. More practise makes perfect. Homework improves children’s learning. The more you practise you will get better results in tests at school.
First, homework is a way of letting parents know about what we learn at school. If parents are interested in their children’s learning, they would check their children’s homework . It is a bridge that joint school and homes. Parents can support their children in their learning.
Secondly, homework should be taken home regularly. Children wouldn’t be watching T.V or playing games, if they had homework. Nor sitting around. If children cared about their learning they would do it.
I think homework is important, because it’s good for your child’s education and ability of learning. Children can gain alot of knowledge and good understanding into their computers(brain) and succeed in a test. Therefore, teachers should give homework to the children regularly.

Pablo Picasso
This picture was referring to becoming like Pablo Picasso in our art. I am confident in some things I do but sometimes it's nerve - wracking. The left side was a side I always relaxed, reflected and meditated.

My Reflection

Year 8 students spent two days at the St Francis Retreat Centre. There we had an incredible time of reflection and prayer. Brother Philip led the retreat. Exciting experiences were finding matching leaves from trees and building an 'ark' using a packet of materials which were given to us and then we had to float our 'ark' (which contained small rocks) on the water. We talked about the symbolism of the ark and the rocks and what these could mean in our daily lives.
Our day ended with a treasure hunt. We had to work in teams, hold onto a piece of ribbon paper to stay together, and solve five clues before we were led to the treasure. My team was Brandy, Kahlanie and Waterlily. Each treasure we collected we had a special symbolic meaning attached to it, such as a telephone to help us communicate which is important, binoculars to help us to focus, a basket full of fruits to nourish ourselves and others and biscuits to symbolise the spiritual food we need on our journey in life.
What an awesome experience we had to help nurture our faith. We are truly blessed!

Holy Spirit in the Scripture
For Religious Education in Room 7, we identified the Holy Spirit of God that was named and referred to and can be recognised in the Old Testament. I learnt that the image of God in the Scripture reading of Psalm 103: 13, was the image of God the Father.

Maths Activity

This was a test which I recorded myself. It took me 5 minutes to finish it to the 10 times tables. It didn't take me long. I felt I achieved this challenge but next time I will try to be a bit faster, under 5 minutes.

Athletics Day
Friday was a nerve - wracking day. I was so nervous in the first race. Everyone was competitive and wanted to win. As I was about to run I felt an adrenaline pumping through my body, sweat rushing down my back. I ran like a civilian fleeing from a war bomb.
The 800m race was scary. My heart pumped rapidly. It was beating fast and faster. “Go!” shouted Mr Gaffney. I started sprinting, it was still pumping but it didn’t stop. Boom, boom, boom, i could feel it. We ran twice round, but then Ofa caught up and I started to jog. Ofa then sprinted to the finish line. Oh well bad luck for me. I was tricked.
At least I came 2nd. But coming 1st was my aim. Better luck next time I thought. I congratulated Ofa with a hug. “Congratulations Ofa” I said. “Thanks Liz”, she replied. I was disappointed. At least I tried. What a day.

New Tool
We were all excited. We couldn't stop chatting about this project. There was excitement all over the room, we were all waiting impatiently for our little netbook. “Yes i got it!”, I said. I couldn't follow Ms G instruction, but i just wanted to log on. The big countdown. "How boring!" I said. But that was the only way to log on. We pressed the power button simultaneously.
It was like the bestest moment of my class time. All of us couldn’t stop talking, shaking because it was like a light that lit up the room full of happiness. I felt fortunate. I counted myself as one lucky person. Receiving this project really means something to me, but I know I’ll use it wisely.
What an experience I had with it. A great opportunity. Instead I’m grateful and thankful I had that opportunity.
